MIFARE® is a 13.56 MHz contactlesstechnology family of microprocessorsdeveloped by Philips. MIFARE is the mostcommon contactless chipset on the marketand is used in most applications around theglobe. It is an ISO 14443 product thatensures compatibility with future products.Cards can be purchased that contain memoryup to 32k bits, a capacity robust enough toprocess the largest biometric templateswhile still incorporating other applications.

DESFire® is a high-end chipset in theMIFARE family that is the first chipcompliant with the Government Smart CardInteroperability Specification (GSC-IS).The GSC-IS standard was created to ensurethe interoperability of contactless andcontact smart cards throughout the federalgovernment.

DES Encryption is a strong cryptographicalgorithm protecting classified information.It is a public algorithm determined by theNational Institute of Standards andTechnology (NIST) to be open, inexpensive,widely available and – most of all – verysecure.

Triple DES is slower than regular DES butits longer key length and triple encryptionprocess is billions of times more secure. Itsadvantage over other security algorithms isthat it is based on the DES algorithm,making it easy to modify existing softwareto incorporate triple DES. Triple DES is alsopublic with proven reliability.
