Lighting - Color Split
The new Chroma-Q™ Color Split is a compact, high output LED fixture providing designers with twice the possibilities.
Bold single colour or dramatic split colour effects
Based around the Color Block's modular, multi-purpose design, the Color Split features larger dual side-by-side RGBA cells. This ingenious configuration provides designers with the flexibility to light with a bold single colour or project a wide range of dramatic split colour effects from a single LED fixture - making it ideal as a truss toner for illuminating the uprights and crossbraces.
Smooth colour wash from top to bottom of a surface
The Color Split's advanced split beam technology also provides a very even, soft beam output, similar to a Fresnel fixture, for a smooth colour wash from top to bottom of a surface without hotspots. A wide-angle lens in one cell evenly washes the lower portion of a wall or drape while a narrow lens in the second cell projects the beam higher. The fixture is also very bright and has a smooth, linear dimming curve.
Amber mixing for warmer colours & superior colour rendition
In addition to the standard RGB and latest HSI (Hue, Saturation and Intensity) control modes found in the Color Block, the Color Split also features unique 3 channel RGB (Magic Amber) and 4 channel RGBI (Magic Amber) modes which automatically and seamlessly blend the Amber alongside the RGB LEDs. By adding Amber to the colour-mixing process, a better range of warmer colours can be achieved, resulting in an enhanced colour gamut and therefore superior colour rendition index (up to 82%).
High brightness for demanding lighting environments
With a 620 lumen output, the Color Split is also extremely bright, making it ideal for even the most demanding lighting environments and applications.
Built in power supply & standalone mode
For maximum versatility, the Color Split features a built-in power supply and choice of control modes - the fixture can be operated in a standalone mode featuring 99 selectable effects or connected to DMX and controlled using additional equipment.
Wide variety of effects lighting applications
As well as making a highly effective wall washer and truss toner, the Color Split's modular, interlocking design and versatile yoke mounting makes it ideal for providing a wide variety of other effects lighting applications as well in the touring, rental, TV, theatre, tradeshow and indoor architectural sectors.
Broad choice of effects & fixing options
Units can be floor, truss or wall mounted and used individually or easily connected together to provide battens, blinders, footlights, side fills, cyclorama floods, discreet set piece lighting and interior architectural lighting applications - all from just a single fixture.

Notebook - Samsung Q1 Ultra ultra-mobile PC
Microsoft and Intel's joint Ultra-mobile PC (UMPC) concept has almost solely been carried by Samsung on the manufacturing front.
One of the most significant changes over the original Q1 released in April 2006 is the use of Intel's new processor from the A100 series, codenamed Steeley. Samsung has fitted the A110 chip that runs at 800MHz with 512KB L2 cache.
It's part of the McCaslin platform that includes a variant of Intel's 945 chipset and Intel's GMA 950 integrated graphics. A total of 1GB of DDR2 Ram is included, which is double that of the original Q1, and a 60GB 1.8in mechanical hard disk.
We couldn't get the Q1 Ultra to run PCmark05 fully since it failed on the transparent window test, but we did pull CPU and memory scores out of it, returning 1,116 and 1,392 respectively. This is more than double what the Medion Rim 1000 UMPC managed and about the same as Samsung's original Q1.
The most immediately obvious upgrade is the Qwerty keyboard - although calling it a keyboard is stretching the definition since its buttons aren't bigger than a mobile phone's keypad. It's no where near as usable as the keyboard on Sony's UX1 or the Medion Rim 1000 and the keys won't welcome large fingers.
Those of us in the office with slimmer digits did find it a pleasant addition though. The Dialkeys application remains as the on-screen virtual keyboard alternative.
The joystick on the left now controls the cursor rather than being a glorifi ed directional-arrow stick. When combined with the left and right click buttons on the opposite side, it mimics a Playstation Portable's usability.
The Q1 Ultra's 7in widescreen display is the most impressive UMPC screen to date. As well as being touch-sensitive and properly calibrated, it's rated at a bright 300nits. The most crucial improvement is the resolution has been increased to 1,024x600, which offers masses of extra desktop space compared to the old Q1.
Video playback was impressive on the screen and no chore for Intel's new processor either. Where Medion struggled with a 130Kbits/sec MPEG4 file, the Q1 Ultra breezed through it. Stereo microphones and a front facing 0.3-megapixel webcam means video conferencing is definitely on the cards; a significant omission on the previous Q1. A 1.3-megapixel webcam also sits on the rear of the device which is great for snapping footage on the go.
Samsung has included two batteries as standard with the Q1 Ultra. With the Wifi turned off, the standard three-cell pack lasted three hours and 38 minutes in our basic reader test. This makes it 20 minutes longer lasting than the Medion. It's also a significant improvement compared to the original Q1. The extended six-cell pack adds 7mm of bulk to the back of the unit but increases battery life to a hefty six hours and two minutes.
A familiar selection of ports is present on the Q1 Ultra including two USB, Ethernet, 3.5mm headphone jack and VGA out. There's also an SD card reader, replacing the Compact Flash reader on the previous version.
While it may seem like a minor point, Samsung's inclusion of a padded case is important since it's vital to keep the UMPC free from scratches and dents; Medion's Rim 1000 doesn't come with such a case and our review unit was soon damaged.
Vista Business is the operating system and, while Aero works fine, it's not particularly nippy. To make up for the lack of Media Center in Vista Business Edition, Samsung has installed AV Station software which does pretty much the same thing. There's a button on the left edge to quickly activate this program.
The jury is still out as to whether UMPCs are genuinely useful, especially when the Q1 Ultra weighs 690g which is comparable to some small notebooks with full keyboards. Samsung says schools can benefit from such devices, but we think £800 is a expensive if you have to kit out several hundred children. We'd also like to see the optional GPS module included as standard.
However, the Q1 Ultra remains one of the cheapest UMPCs you'll find and it's definitely the best model we've tested so far. Of course, it's not perfect – the keyboard and general usability still need improving – but its build quality and performance is better than the alternatives from Sony and Medion, and we're looking forward to Samsung's next entry in the UMPC market.

Notebook - Apple aims 3G iPhone at firms
Apple is targeting enterprise customers with the much anticipated update of its iPhone mobile device, which adds ActiveSync support for Microsoft Exchange servers and is now backed by an SDK for application development. But, experts still believe Apple is unlikely to displace established mobile platforms.
The iPhone 3G is set to be available in the UK from O2 on 11 July, but pricing and tariffs have yet to be confirmed by the carrier. As well as support for 3G networks, the device has built-in GPS capability and ships with either 8GB or 16GB of Flash storage.
Apple has made much of new enterprise features, with chief executive Steve Jobs drawing attention to its support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, which will enable users to get push email and let administrators remotely wipe the device if lost.
But Jeremy Green, principal analyst for enterprise mobility at Ovum, doubted whether it would attract enterprise interest, at least officially.
"There is a lot of prejudice among CIOs against giving users consumer phones. The iPhone is seen as a consumer device and this will count against it," he said.
The new device looks almost identical to the first iPhone, with a touch-sensitive display in place of a physical keyboard. This is one reason that the iPhone is unlikely to challenge devices such as the BlackBerry, but Green said there are others.
"I'm not convinced Apple is there yet on security and manageability. It faces an uphill struggle compared to the more established enterprise platforms," he said, adding that the iPhone is "not a BlackBerry killer."
However, the fact that Apple now supports Exchange email means that some devices are almost certain to find their way into companies via the back door, as employees buy them privately and then start using them for business.
Ironically, BlackBerry maker RIM is rumoured to be developing a device similar to the iPhone for release later this year. Some enthusiast sites have reported seeing a touch-screen model codenamed the BlackBerry Thunder. RIM, however, has declined to comment on unannounced models.
At Apple's worldwide developer conference, the firm also previewed the next version of its OS X desktop platform. Codenamed Snow Leopard, this will bring better support for multi-core processors, larger memory sizes, and Microsoft Exchange support. The update is due for release next year.

Notebook - OQO Model E2 HSDPA ultra-mobile PC
Price: £1,369.11
Manufacturer: OQO 01279 822 090
Will Stapley, Personal Computer World, 04 Jan 2008
OQO launched its ultra-mobile PC (UMPC) in September 2007 and has now released an upgrade complete with a built-in HSPDA module for high-speed mobile broadband.
Housed in an extremely small chassis, the Model E2 weighs just 500g and is sturdily built.
The screen shifts up to reveal a Qwerty keyboard and numeric keypad along with a small and rather fiddly mouse control.
There’s a good amount of spacing between each key, although you won’t be able to use all 10 fingers - most people are likely to use just their thumbs. Additional keys are limited to left and right mouse buttons and zoom control. Controls for volume, brightness and a Vista Start button are noticeable by their absence.
The bottom of the chassis is home to a USB2 port, docking connector, audio jack and built-in microphone. There’s also an HDMI port, but this should be seen as a smaller alternative to a VGA or DVI output and not a way of watching high-definition movies on an HDTV since it’s not HDCP compatible. Regardless of HDCP support, HD video is well beyond the graphics capabilities of the Model E2.
OQO has gone for a 1.6GHz Via processor, namely the C7-M ultra-low voltage chip, and supplied it with 1GB of Ram. Via’s VX700 chip handles the graphics and since it has no dedicated Ram it ends up stealing what it needs from the main system memory. OQO has also stuck with a standard 1.8in 80GB model spinning at 4,200rpm rather than a solid-state drive.
On our test system, Vista Ultimate took a total of one minute, 45 seconds to boot. Once up and running, it was perfectly capable of browsing the internet, dealing with Word documents and the like, but loading individual programs was frustratingly slow. Even simple tasks such as opening the Control Panel or a browser window took a good few seconds.
The new HSDPA module lets you browse the internet at high speed whenever an HSDPA signal is present. Should you drop out of an HSDPA area, it will continue at slower GPRS speeds. In our tests, using T-Mobile’s network, we couldn’t get above 400Kbits/sec - well short of the 3.6Mbits/sec synchronisation speed.
HSDPA speeds are limited by various factors including contention, which in central London can slow things to a crawl, but we were hoping for faster. Don’t forget you’ll need to provide your own Sim card to use this service, preferably with an unlimited data tariff.
The 5in screen has a native resolution of 800x480, which doesn’t leave much room for the Vista desktop. The Model E2 can work at 1,000x600 or 1,200x720, but the quality drops as it shifts from its native resolution. The touchscreen requires an OQO Digital Pen (£20), so finger navigation is out, but vertical and horizontal scrolling can be performed by hand using the two strips at the bottom right of the screen.
Battery life was disappointing, with the standard 4,500mAh battery providing just two hours’ usage. A 9,000mAh battery is available for £120. The Model E2 also runs hot, with audible fans attempting to cool things down. It’s not going to burn you, but it will become uncomfortable over extended periods of time.
This new HSDPA Model E2 is compact, well built, features a usable keyboard, and beats Medion’s Rim1000 and Sony’s UX1. But we still prefer Samsung’s Q1 Ultra with its faster Intel processor, larger screen and better battery life. It’s also much cheaper at less than £1,000.

Before Installing
Please thoroughly read the System Sensor manual A05-1003, Applications Guide for System Smoke Detectors. Thismanual provides detailed information on detector spacing, placement, zoning, wiring, and special applications. Copiesof this manual are available at no charge from SystemSensor. (For installation in Canada, refer to CAN/ULCS524,Standard for the Installation of Fire Alarm Systemsand CEC Part 1, Sec. 32.)
General Description
System Sensor 1400 dual-chamber ionization smoke detectorsutilize state-of-the-art, unipolar sensing chambers. These detectors are designed to provide open area protection, and to be used with compatible UL-listed, 2-wire controlpanels only. The detector’s operation and sensitivitycan be tested in place. Each detector includes an LED that provides a local visualindication of the detector’s status. The LED blinks everyten seconds as an indication that power is applied to thedetector and lights continuously in alarm. These detectorsalso have the latching alarm feature. The alarm can be resetonly by a momentary power interruption. The detector also has provision for the connection of anoptional Model RA400Z Remote Annunciator. The RA400Zprovides a visual indication of an alarm and mounts to asingle gang box.
Spacing
NFPA 72 defines the spacing requirements for smokedetectors. Typically, this is 30 feet when the detectors areinstalled on a smooth ceiling. However, ALL installationsmust comply with NFPA 72 and/or special requirements ofthe authority having jurisdiction.
Mounting
Each 1400 detector is supplied with a mounting bracket kitthat permits the detector to be mounted:1. Directly to a 31⁄2 inch or 4 inch octagonal, 11⁄2 inch deepelectrical box, or 2. To a 4 inch square electrical box by using a plaster ringwith the supplied mounting bracket kit.
Installation Wiring Guidelines
All wiring must be installed in compliance with theNational Electrical Code and all applicable local codes andany special requirements of the authority having jurisdiction, using the proper wire size. The conductors used toconnect smoke detectors to control panels and accessorydevices should be color-coded to reduce the likelihood ofwiring errors. Improper connections can prevent a systemfrom responding properly in the event of a fire. For signal wiring (the wiring between interconnecteddetectors), it is recommended that the wire be no smallerthan AWG 18. However, the screws and clamping plate canaccommodate wire sizes up to AWG 12. The use of twistedpair wiring for the power (+ and –) loop is recommendedto minimize the effects of electrical interference.
Smoke detectors and alarm system control panels havespecifications for allowable loop resistance. Consult thecontrol panel manufacturer’s specifications for the totalloop resistance allowed for the control panel being usedbefore wiring the detector loops.Begin electrical connections by stripping about 3⁄8″ insulationfrom the end of the wire. Then, slide the bare end ofthe wire under the clamping plate and tighten the clampingplate screw. A wiring diagram for a typical 2-wire detectorsystem .NOTE: Break the wire at each terminal to ensure that theconnections are supervised. Do NOT loop the wireunder the terminals.
System Sensor smoke detectors are marked with a compatibilityidentifier located as the last digit of a five digit codestamped on the back of the product. Connect detectorsonly to compatible control units as indicated in SystemSensor’s compatibility chart which contains a current listof UL-listed control units and detectors. A copy of this listis available from System Sensor upon request.
Tamper-resistant Feature
This detector includes a tamper-resistant feature that effectivelyprevents removal of the detector without the use ofa tool. To make the detector tamper-resistant, break offthe smaller tab at the scribed line on the tamper resistanttab, on the detector mounting bracket (see Figure 2), theninstall the detector. To remove the detector from the bracketonce it has been made tamper resistant, use a small screwdriverto depress the tamper-resistant tab located in theslot on the mounting bracket and turn the detector counterclockwisefor removal.

Backup - Cobian Backup
- Version 8 Black Moon
For Windows NT, 2000, XP, 2003, Vista
Latest version: 8.2.0.171 - Version 7 Luz de Luna
For Windows 95*, 98, ME, Windows NT, 2000, XP, 2003, Vista
Latest version: 7.6.0.353
Features
- Cobian Backup is a multi-threaded program that can be used to schedule and backup your files and directories from their original location to other directories/drives in the same computer or other computer in your network. FTP backup is also supported in both directions (download and upload).
- Cobian Backup exists in two different versions: application and service. The program uses very few resources and can be running on the background on your system, checking your backup schedule and executing your backups when necessary. Cobian Backup is not an usual backup application: it only copies your files and folders in original or compressed mode to other destination, creating a security copy as a result. So Cobian Backup can be better described as a "Scheduler for security copies".
- Cobian Backup supports several methods of compression and strong encryption.
New on version 8
- The program uses now Unicode functions whenever it can. Using compression and FTP will use ANSI functions, of course because of limitations on those formats or the FTP protocol. If you don't use compression or FTP, the program will always handle your file names as Unicode.
- The program uses now memory mapped files for inter-process communication. All the TCP communication used in older versions has been eliminated.
- A new method of encryption has been added: RSA-Rijndael, which uses a 256-bit Rijndael encryption with a random key that is itself encrypted used a 1024-bit RSA asymmetric key.
- Sensitive settings as passwords are now stored in the ini file using strong encryption
- The program is now a "green" application. All the files are stored in ini files. The only part that used the registry is the service, which, for obvious reasons must be installed using the registry. A green application, of course is not necessarily a good thing, but some people (often for "religious" reasons) seem to think that this is a good thing. Oh, well...
- A feature allows you now you execute individual tasks under different user accounts. The task will then try to impersonate the user and execute the task under that account.
- The 256 characters path limit is now GONE thanks to Unicode. The file and paths names can now be up to 32000 characters long.
- Now you can close programs using also their class names.
- Better SQX error handling.
- Full service control from the Option dialog.
- The mirroring effect that you got while compressing AND overwriting has been thankfully eliminated.
- LOTS of bugs fixed
- A better user interface.
- FTP transfers of larger files (> 2 GB are now supported)
- Designed and written from scratch
- Zip64 for zip files larger than 2 GB
- SQX compression
- Backup FROM and TO a FTP server
- Limit the speed of your FTP transfers
- SSL servers supported
- The program can now remind you if you have missed backups
- Strong encryption: Supported methods are Blowfish (128 bit), Rijndael (128 bit) and DES (64 bit)
- An open plug-in architecture to allow the program's enhancement
- The interprocess communication is done using TCP/IP. This allows a better communication between the program parts AND the program can be administrated from another machine anywhere in the world.
- Backup to multiple destinations
- A backup history is displayed
- Compressed files can now be split
- A new user interface
- Remote backup
- Automatically remove old backups
- The application can be used as a command line utility. No separate command line program is needed

Access Controller : (3) NITGEN - NAC-3000 / NAC-2500 / Preparation before installation
1. Fingerprint sensor (USB Type)
To authenticate manager's fingerprint or register user's fingerprint on a server or client PC with the program, NITGEN fingerprint sensor and driver (Easy Installation v.1.32 or later) must be installed.
For more information on how to install, please refer to the enclosed manual (“Driver Installation for fingerprint sensor”) with the fingerprint sensor product.
2. Server and client PCs
If you have to register a lot of users or manage a lot of te rminals, we recommend installing the program on a stable PC. We also strongly recommend using the server for ace ss controller management only.
3. Network
TCP/IP protocol should be installed on the server and Client PCs. Contact your network administrator to check if a fixed IP address has been assigned to the server PC.
Installation
Run Setup.exe from the Access Manager folder in the CD, and follow all of the installation steps.
Access Controller : (3) NITGEN - NAC-3000 / NAC-2500 / Authentication types
With the NITGEN access control system, you can use fingerprints, passwords, and RF cards (optional) for authentication. Depending on customer environment, you can use one of the following authentication types as you need.
Fingerprint authentication
Use fingerprints to validate access authentication with the following
types:
- 1:1 authentication
In this mode, you should input ID first and then your fingerprint. The enrolled fingerprint corresponding to the ID will be compared to the entered fingerprint on a 1:1 basis. The 1:1 authentication type takes a short time regardless of the number of users. There is no need to make any special settings in the system. After entering the ID, enter the fingerprint to perform authentication. - 1:N authentication
In this mode, you need to enter only fingerprint without ID. Though the authentication procedure is simple, this method will take a little longer than the 1:1 authentication if there are many users. There is no need to make any special settings in the system.
- Short ID (SID) authentication
The user ID can be 4 - 15 digits long depending on the initial setting. This method simplifies ID input procedure. Instead of entering the entire registered ID, you can enter only the first part of the ID for authentication. For example, if the user ID is 1234567, enter 12 only and then the fingerprint. Then the system will perform 1:N authentication for all IDs that start with 12xxxxx. There is no need to make any special settings in the system.
- Group authentication
For group authentication, you can specify a group ID of 1 - 4 digits long for each user group. You will enter a group ID and a fingerprint for authentication. For example, you can use the unit number for public housing like an apartment as a group ID. You can specify a group ID when you register a user. Unlike other methods, you must enter the group ID, and then press F1 before entering the fingerprint to perform group authentication. ( NAC-3000 only support the function of “Group authentication”.)
Password authentication
A password of 4 - 8 digits long is used to validate access authentication. You can use this method in such a special case as when the fingerprints are damaged.
RF card authentication (optional)
The RF card of a user is used to identify the user. The card number must be registered into the system to use the card.
Note :
The dedicated terminal to RF card supports user authorized type of password and RF card ID.
Access Controller : (3) NITGEN - NAC-3000 / NAC-2500 / How to input fingerprint?
When you enroll and authenticate user fingerprint, do the followings to avoid authentication error:
- Press your finger evenly to maximize the input area. If we say the weakest push as 0%, and the strongest push as 100%, apply 50~70% of force.
- Make sure that the core of the fingerprint is at the center. In general, the core of the fingerprint is on the same line as the lunula of the fingernail. So locate the lunula of the fingernail at the center of the fingerprint input window.
Note :
The recognition performance of the fingerprint recognition device largely depends on the skill of the user. Follow the fingerprint input method described above to improve recognition performance.
